THE BOOK

I was twelve when I walked in on my mother snorting meth. Again.
I thought she’d quit years before. I preferred her obsessive compulsive sober self. Her addictions, her men, and her various personas (musician, ghost hunter, David Bowie, et al) had forever taken precedence over “little mongrels” such as myself, ensuring neglect and all its delightful accompaniments.
Despite enduring abandonment, shoddy living conditions, sexual abuse, and the ever demanding responsibility of my younger siblings, I vowed I’d save her, if only to experience that mother-daughter connection, even just once. And I was willing to take on radical religion, perform stand-up comedy, and go to battle with Satan armed with only a Tonka dump truck—anything to make her love me.
Though the symptoms had been there all along, no one could have predicted that twenty-five years later one medical diagnosis would finally bring us together, and another would forever tear us apart.
EVERYTHING’S HUNKY DORY: A MEMOIR will appeal to fans of Augusten Burroughs, John Elder Robison’s Look Me In The Eye, and Jeanette Walls’ best selling memoir The Glass Castle.
